SIGHTING THE MOON FOR SHAWWAL (1431 LH) 2010 AD
Brothers and Sisters in Imaan,
Wishing you divine acceptance of your spiritual efforts and worship in the holy month of Ramadan, please note:
In accordance with the opinions of some of the jurists such as Ayatollah al ‘Uzma Khamene’i, in order to establish the first day of the lunar month, the crescent that announces the beginning of that month in the very area that one is living in or in an area that shares the same (Lunar) horizon must be seen or witnessed. Thus, seeing the crescent in Iran, Iraq, or in other places that do not share the same horizon would not be valid for people residing in England.
Furthermore, based upon information obtained from reputable astronomical centres in England and other areas that share the same horizon, the crescent of the beginning of the month of Shawwal cannot be visible (in England) on Thursday, September 9th 2010 and no one has claimed to have witnessed it.
Therefore, in England Friday 10th September 2010 will be the 30th of the Holy Month of Ramadan and Saturday 11th September 2010 will be Eid ul-Fitr. (Eid prayer @ 9 AM).
