The 19th annual meeting for scholars and preachers took place at the Hawza Ilmiyya of England

The 19th annual meeting for scholars and preachers took place on Saturday 11th October 2014 at the Hawza Ilmiyya of England with over a hundred in attendance from around the UK.

The meeting was convened by the Islamic Centre of England to give directions and guidelines to scholars and preachers in the run up to the upcoming Muharram.

The meeting was concluded with the following statement:

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

“Those who deliver the messages of Allah and fear Him, and do not fear any one but Allah; and Allah is sufficient to take account.” (Holy Quran 33:39)

All praise is due to Allah, and may the blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet

Muhammad (saw) and his pure progeny (as).

Peace be upon Al-Hussain, Ali ibn Al-Hussain, the sons of Al-Hussain and the companions of Al-Hussain.
It is between the blessed occasion of Al-Ghadeer and the coming of Muharram, that we gather for the 19th under the title of:

The role of scholars in highlighting the status of Marja’iyyah and Taqleed whilst refuting the misconceptions

Today, the Ummah witnesses complicated challenges and faces problems leading to the plundering of the resources of our Ummah; targeting sense of moderation due to the ignorance that has plagued large parts of the Islamic world.

Today, the Ummah witnesses complicated challenges and faces problems leading to the plundering of the resources of our Ummah; targeting sense of moderation due to the ignorance that has plagued large parts of the Islamic world.

From this standpoint, we feel obliged to make the following points which concern the reality of our people as an Ummah, community and as minorities in the West:

1. Necessity for giving due attention to the sacred signs of Allah in the remembrance of Imam Hussain (as) as a significant upliftment to our Ummah in light of the challenges and dangers it faces; by taking inspiration from the spirit of reform in the movement of Imam Hussain (as) against oppression and deviance which threatened to extinguish the light of the original Prophetic Islam.
2. The enemies of our Ummah, with all that is at their disposal, seek to destroy Islam and divide those from within it through spreading misconceptions and false accusations which target Islam and make it appear to be in opposition to peace and co-existence with others, in particular by means of falsely attributing claims about the Supreme Religious Authorities (Marja’iyyah), and trying to weaken the role of religious scholars who are the inheritors of the Prophets. There is no solution to this problem except through responding to these misconceptions and refuting these challenges by bringing the Hussaini reforming ideals to the forefront.
3. It is essential to avoid any issue that creates misunderstandings when propagating Islam because we are propagating the message of Allah (swt) to all people on the basis of spreading the message of unity of God.
4. Our gatherings to commemorate Imam Hussain (as) are with the objective of helping people in the West understand our message of human development and to strengthen our relationships with other communities.
5. To shine spotlight on the message to Imam Hussain (as) as a humanitarian issue that speaks to every honourable human being regardless of their denomination or faith.
6. To emphasize the need for unity amongst Muslims as equals against their enemies.
7. To avoid mentioning issues that are disputed amongst the Islamic schools of thought and rather to mention those issues that are agreed upon in order to further understanding of commonalities and constructive dialogue.
8. To emphasize the duty of the Ummah to stand alongside the oppressed.
9. To emphasize the need to recognize the other and not to push them away from the spirit of the message of Imam Hussain (as).
10. To emphasize the importance of the inviolability of a Muslim’s life, honour and property.
11. To emphasize and stress the need for social cohesion in the Ummah which would empower the Ummah against Takfiri thought.
12. To inspire members of the community with the spirit of sacrifice as the struggle today is between truth and falsehood; which needs sacrifice and resolve as taught to us by Imam Hussain (as).
13. To guide people towards Wilayah and Marja’iyyah in order to steer the Ummah in the right direction.
14. To strengthen the people’s relationship with the Imam of our time, Al-Mahdi (atf) and to outline people’s responsibilities in hastening the blessed return.

May Allah reward you and be pleased with you.
